Leon de Vreede

Sustainability Planner

Leon de Vreede (MCIP, LPP) is the Sustainability Planner for the Town of Bridgewater, where he coordinates its sustainability program and climate change action plans.  Counted among his successes are the Town’s award-winning energy management and Clean Energy Financing programs.  In 2015 Leon was an inaugural recipient of the provincial Clean Climate Leader Award.

Leon recently oversaw the completion of the Community Energy Investment Plan, which has been recognized by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities as a leading Canadian example of municipal climate leadership.  Branded as “Energize Bridgewater”, the initiative lays a new foundation for local economic development through public and private investment toward a low carbon community.

Leon’s interests in sustainability, education, and facilitation have allowed him to act as a sustainability advisor for businesses and local governments.  In his free time he enjoys to travel, garden, spend time in nature, volunteer in his community, and practice aikido.
